Akshay Kulkarni has assisted renowned fashion photographer Jagdish Mali and Tushar Deshpande. He shoots regularly for renowned ad agencies like O&M, Mudra, Lowe (Lintas), Publicis, Contract and BMB Madison to name just a few. His works have been published in various publications like Filmfare, Stardust, Femina, Ehlan Masala (Dubai) Society, Society Interiors, CW Interiors and Mother & Baby and others. An interview with Akshay Kulkarni:

Please share your background as a photographer.

I have been working as a professional photographer since the last 15 years. I specialize in architecture and interior photography. I hold a Diploma in Commercial Art from L.S. Raheja School of Art, with photography as my specialization. Over the years, I have honed my skills through a combination of formal education, practical experience and my passion for capturing the beauty and essence of architectural and interior spaces. I am also active in the Mumbai advertising circle as a commercial photographer.

What kind of Photography do you do?

Primarily, I focus on architecture and interior photography. I excel in capturing the intricate details, unique designs and the right ambiance of architectural and interior spaces, whether it is residential, commercial or cultural structures. My goal is to evoke emotions and tell a story through my photography, thereby showcasing the vision and craftsmanship of the architects and designers behind each project. I also specialize in a wide range of photography, including Commercial Photography, Celebrity Portraits, Fashion, Lifestyle, Product, Food and Interior Photography.

Name one photographer who has inspired you the most and tell us why?

American architectural photographer Julius Shulman has deeply inspired me with his artistic and iconic photography. His iconic images of modernist architecture beautifully captured the essence of mid-century design and played a significant role in popularizing modern architecture. Shulman’s ability to seamlessly blend light, form and context in his photography continues to influence my approach to architectural photography. His work reminds me of the power of photography to not only document, but also elevate architecture to a form of art.
